As some of you will know, there's a fan translation of DQIII nearing completion. Like all such fan projects there's a "ready when it's finished" attitude going on but it does sound as if it should be released near Christmas. I believe they're in the testing phases right now. There are updates posted in the DQIII (SNES) board on GameFAQs if you want to keep an eye on it yourself.For now, here's the intro in English - with at least one grammatical error but that should be the sort of thing they're fixing up as we speak.

Interesting but...I literally just finished playing the GBC version. Which came out nearly at the same time in Japan and was meant to be the same remake treatment put portable.
I understand the idea behind playing the enhanced graphical version, but I just prefer to play games on the systems they come on when I can. As well as having a finished save file, not just stuck on an emulator.
But most of all, Dragon Warrior III was one of the FEW DQ games America ever saw with 1) A complete form of the Japanese game 2) A good translation and 3) An enhanced remake that made it to American shores. Little can be said for the current and future DS remakes...
For me it's really great because my first console was the Mega Drive and I also would play on the SNES at my friends' houses. As such, the earliest graphical level I ever experienced at the time was 16-bit. 8-bit was never something I'd encountered until far more recently via emulation. I didn't even have a Gameboy and whenever I'd have a quick go on a friends' GB I'd always think "Holy shit, this looks awful", even when it was a currently supported console.
As such, although I completed the GBC DQIII, I found it pretty ugly and it was below the graphical level I've always taken for granted, even aged 10 or 11. As I say, if I'd been introduced to gaming via the NES or Master System (or earlier), I'm sure I wouldn't have a problem with it but despite my love of retro games and my disdain for graphic-reliant games (like most FPS), I just can't overcome the fact that I never got used to 8-bit, so this is a great chance for me to play a great game in a graphical style that's actually nostalgic for me, rather than "before my time".
Well, the SNES remake for Japan was probably the best version and far beit from me to say you shouldn't play it. I'm just saying DWIII was actually one of the few games we actually got here in America that was legit, even if it was on a system that was less than even 8-bit graphics (as the GB, even in its Color form, was less than true 8-bit graphics).
Still, I'd rather prefer to play whichever of the versions has the better translation, in light of how badly Square-Enix is raping all the 'officially' released Dragon Quest games as of late. Especially DQSwords and DQIV. And having played DWIII on the GBC, it has probably the best translation/localization of any Dragon Quest game that has made it to Americas shores along with Dragon Warrior VII on Playstation.
